Today the Files Design Group began milling rough sawn yellow pine reclaimed from the barn of Mr. Fisher. Below are a few images of the results from the milling process.
The lumber is being milled in preparation for constructing a farm table for the home of Mr. Fisher. This process is called "step milling" because the lumber is milled multiple times over the course of two weeks, 1/16th of an inch at a time in order to allow the wood to acclimate to its new environment...
Otherwise the wood would cup, bow and twist due to an uneven moisture content.
Teamwork is essential for getting a job done accurately and efficiently.
These narrower boards will become the legs and apron that for the base of the table.
